An evening of white collar boxing has raised nearly £1,180 for Community Nursing Services for Children in the Hywel Dda Health Board area.

The event, hosted by Stallion Boxing Gym owner Angelo Dragone, was held at the Selwyn Samuel Center in Llanelli and raised £1,178.43.

Community-based child nursing services support children and young people who have long and short-term health needs with their independence and help their families care for them safely at home, reducing the need for hospitalization.

They also support and train school and respite staff to enable children and youth to attend school to maximize their life potential, and they provide families with access to respite care.

Money raised from this event will help nurses obtain training materials and organize events to benefit the lives of the children and young people the service supports.

Angelo Dragone, said, “I was incredibly happy to raise funds for Community Nursing Services for Children.

“Nicola, who is a community children’s nurse, trains at Stallion Boxing Gym and spoke to me a lot about the service and how much they offer less fortunate children, thank you to everyone who attended the evening and have donated to this amazing cause.”

Sara McDonnell, Community Children’s Nursing Services Team Leader, said: “Thank you for making this kind donation to the Community Children’s Nursing (CCN) team.

“The CCN team is a small team of nurses working across the three counties of Hywel Dda University Health Board, covering Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

“We have nurses based in Llanelli, Carmarthen, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Cardigan and Aberystwyth.

“We look after children and young people in the community.

“These may be children with short-term health needs, but mainly children and young people with complex long-term health needs.

“We support the child by promoting their independence and empowering their family to care for them safely at home, reducing the need for hospitalization.

“We support and train school and respite staff to enable the child and youth to attend school to maximize their life potential and provide families with access to respite care.

“The fabulous donation collected at this event will help us obtain training materials and organize events to benefit the lives of the children and young people we support, thank you again for supporting us.”
