A nursing home in Warren that experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases last week saw those numbers come back down this week, while a nursing home in Youngstown continued to see high numbers of cases this week .

The Gillette Nursing Home in Warren had six patient cases and one staff case last week, but it has no patient cases this week and two staff cases, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health .

The Canfield Healthcare Center Nursing Home on Canfield Road in Youngstown, meanwhile, has seven cases of the virus and three staff cases. There were six patient cases and one staff case last week.

Most of the other settlements in Trumbull and Mahoning and counties had very few cases this week. Columbiana County data shows two facilities with cases this week, but the numbers are low.

In Ohio nursing homes and assisted living facilities, the number of COVID-19 infections has increased again this week. There are 806 patient cases this week, up from 752 last week and 539 two weeks ago. Staff cases stand at 741 staff cases this week, up from 694 last week and 541 two weeks ago.

Three new deaths have been linked to long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes and

assisted living facility last week. There have been 296 in Mahoning County overall, two more deaths than last week. There have been 81 deaths in Columbiana County, up one from last week and 165 deaths in Trumbull County, the same as last week.

The number of COVID-19 cases for staff is high at all three prisons in the region, with the Northeastern Ohio Private Correctional Center in Youngstown having nine staff cases this week and three inmate cases. The Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown has six staff cases and no inmate cases. Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg has five staff cases and no inmate cases.
