BENNINGTON — Rebecca Souza is the new director of nursing services at the Vermont Veterans’ Home.

Souza is responsible for overseeing all aspects of clinical services, which include nursing, behavioral services, therapy services and dietary services.

Born and raised in Newport, RI, Souza began her nursing career as a certified nurse’s aide. She earned her associate’s degree from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in North Providence, RI, and then earned her bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College.

She also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years, resigning her commission at the rank of captain. At the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, she completed her certification in Advanced Practice in Adult Health.

Souza attended Salve Regina University to earn her doctorate, with a focus on evaluating and improving end-of-life nursing teamwork.

She is a certified yoga instructor and teaches yin yoga, a practice of holding postures for a period of time while incorporating meditation. She is married with three dogs, and enjoys cycling and snowboarding.

“I have spent most of my nursing career in the community setting with a particular focus on caring for those with critical illnesses and at the end of life,” Souza said in a statement.
